Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” is the newest dance craze to go viral, and as we learned from the U.S. Olympic Team’s “Call Me Maybe” and the entire “Harlem Shake” craze, no one does viral dance videos quite like swimmers.
Good Morning America called on its viewers to put together their own “Shake It Off” videos, and sure enough, the sport of swimming got some high-level representation.
When GMA put together a compilation of their best entries, a submission from swimmers in New Jersey got a very prominent appearance. Using the classic swimmer advantage, this group of Taylor Swift superfans went underwater to “Shake it off” in their own uniquely aquatic way.
Ocean County swimmers Anna Francisco, Marissa Wagner, Emma Capro and Molly Griswold put together their clip, and appeared on Good Morning America compilation last Friday.
You can watch their 30 second submission to the contest above, courtesy of Capro on Vimeo. The entire fan video compilation is available here, on YahooNews.
Griswold is quoted in the article explaining what Taylor Swift means to her and her teammates.
“When others try to turn off the music in our hearts, we will turn up the volume and dance to our own melody!” she says in the Yahoo story. “Taylor has inspired us to apply important lessons to our lives – Always be true to what you believe. Strive to be unique, have fun, be silly and enjoy the process … every day. And, develop the ability to laugh at yourself.”
The swimmers’ video was one of only several to make the Good Morning America compilation, out of hundreds of entries. The submission was part of a contest, with the winning video earning its dancers a trip to watch Swift’s live concert in Times Square on Thursday. Though that prize ultimately went to a group of competitive dancers in Florida, the New Jersey swimmers proved that we water-dwellers can shake it with the best of them.
These girls rock, in and out of the pool! <3
VERY PROUD OF THOSE SWIMMERS
Although our girls are sad they didn’t win the contest and don’t have tickets to the Good Morning America concert, they are very proud to have spent much of their lives in such a supportive competitive swimming community. Thanks for doing the article, Jared Anderson and Swim Swam!
