Utah Swimming and Diving Travels To UNLV 

SALT LAKE CITY- Utah swimming and diving will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. this Friday, Nov. 4 where they will take on UNLV. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m.

“We get to see some tune-up racing one final time, against a UNLV team with a new coaching staff, before beginning our preparations for the Ohio State Invitational which will be one of our focus competitions for the year,” said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra.

UTAH NOTES

Both Ute programs recently battled Arizona State and Arizona at Ute Natatorium and came up short in tough Pac-12 meets.

UTAH WOMEN

Individually, Stina Colleou took first in the 200 breast against UA and ASU with a top time of 2:17.93. Darby Wayner had wins in the 200 IM (2:09.11) and 100 fly (56.33). Against the Sun Devils, McKenna Gassaway would took first in the 100 breast touching in at 1:04.39 and sophomore Jordan Anderson took first in the 200 fly (2:04.57).

 

The Utes started the meet against ASU by winning the 200 medley relay. The team consisting of Shayla Archer, Colleou, Kristine Pataray and Gillian St. John touched in at 1:43.48. Against UA, another win was recorded in the 200 free relay. The team of Dorien Butter, Pataray, St. John and Jenna Marsh touched in with a time of 1:35.08.

In diving, Amanda Casillas was first in both the one-meter (286.05) and the three-meter (319.95) for the Utes against both teams with top scores of 291.45 and 319.95, respectively.

UTAH MEN

Jack Burton had multiple wins at both meets. He captured the 100 breast with a time of 55.83, as well as the 200 breast (2:04.32). Against UA, Burton won the 100 breast, touching in at 57.02, as well as the 200 breast (2:05.54). He is currently undefeated this season in both events.

Newcomer Rahiti De Vos captured the 500 free at both meets with a top time of 4:31.84. He also took second in the 200 free vs. UA (1:41.74).

Also against UA, Paul Unger was first in the 100 back with a time of 49.67 while freshman Liam O’Haimhirgin took first in the 100 free (46.43).

In a close 200 IM race, it was Nolan Rogers who came out on top. He finished with a time of 1:53.09, just .02 seconds in front of Arizona’s Nick Thorne. He also captured the 400 IM against ASU in 4:03.89

On the boards, Josiah Purss took first in both the one-meter and the three-meter events vs. both squads. In the one meter, he came away with a top score of 363.53 against UA while in the three meter, he scored 360.23 vs. ASU

LAST MEETING

The Utes last took on the UNLV Rebels last season on Nov. 7. The men won their meet by a score of 189.5-104.5 and the women were also victorious, 179-120.

UP NEXT

The Utes will prepare to compete in the Ohio State Invitational, Nov. 17-19.
