According to Galway BayFM, the newly-appointed USA Swimming CEO Tim Hinchey is set to do a 13km charity swim later this month in Ireland. Hinchey will be swimming alongside three other teammates as he will compete as part of a relay in the open water competition.
The 12th Annual Frances Thornton Memorial Galway Bay Swim in Aid of Cancer Care West will take place on July 22nd in Ireland. Over 100 swimmers in total will compete as the race begins in County Clare, Ireland and ends in Salthill.
According to David O’Donnell of Cancer Care West, “This year we have a lot of new faces taking on the relays and more so than ever swimmers from around Ireland are taking part. The news that team USA swim CEO will also be taking it on- is really just another boost to the event.”
Hinchey, who swam at UC Irvine, also served as a graduate assistant at the school. UC Irvine has since cut its men’s swim team.
Hinchey was announced as the new USA Swimming President and CEO just over a month ago following his tenure at the MLS franchise, The Colorado Rapids.
