USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Warner Russ has announced that he has signed on to swim and study at Auburn University this fall. Russ hails from Jackson, Mississippi, where he recently graduated from Jackson Preparatory School.
Russ, who trains year-round with the Mississippi Makos Swim Team, is a U.S. Open qualifier in the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 IM. At Summer Juniors last August, Russ finished as high as 33rd in the 50m free (23.64), and notched personal bests in the 100m free (51.66) and 200m back (2:07.77).
Winter Juniors highlighted his past short course season. He advanced to the B-final in the 100 (44.07, 12th) and 200 free (1:37.06, 12th), as well as took 18th in the 200 IM out of the C-final (1:48.27). His swim in the 100 marked over a two second drop from the season prior, while his 200 free and 200 IM both were three second improvements. He shaved off a few more hundredths later in the 200 free to end his season with a best time of 1:37.03.

Under the direction of head coach Ryan Wochomurka, the Auburn men finished 2nd at the 2024 SEC Championships and 12th at the 2024 NCAA Division I Championships.
Russ is closest to SEC scoring range in the 200 free, where it took a 1:35.40 in prelims to make it back to the C-final. Ryan Husband was the team’s top finisher in the event at SECs in 11th (1:33.37), while Michael Bonson was just behind in 14th (1:34.83). Both Husband and Bonson were seniors last season.
Russ will be joined by Ethan Swart, Sam Empey, Keaton Rice, Isaac Lee, Aidan Siers, Andy Commins, Jack Ailshire, Aidan Clements, Landon Lloyd, James Allison, and River Paulk next fall.
