Karl Krug: Sprint Freestyle Personal and Youth Swimming: Karl Krug was born in Yucaipa, California on August 11, 1989 to parents Karl and Susan Krug. Growing up, Krug swam for Yucaipa High School under head Coach Glenn Perry and for the Redlands Swim Team under head coach Chuck Riggs. A dominant sprinter, coming out of high school Krug was a ten-time high school All-American, a three-time Junior National Qualifier, and the Southern California Swimmer of the Year by Riverside Press Enterprise. College Swimming: One of the top high school recruits of 2008, Krug committed to Auburn University to swim as a sprint freestyler. As a freshman, Krug was already one of the top sprint freestylers on the team. In Krug's sophomore year he earned his first All-American honor at the 2010 NCAA Championships. Krug was an All-American Honorable Mention with his 12th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and a time of 19.56. In that year, Krug was also a member of Auburn's 200-yard freestyle relay that won gold at the 2010 SEC Championships. The following year, Krug earned three more All-American honors at the 2011 NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
