Swimming’s TopTenTweets of the Week: #3 Marcus Titus Sets New Deaf WR

One of the problems of having outdoor pools.

Keri-anne Payne of GBR won the Olympic test event (a 10km open water swim) in Rio today, and is looking very good going into the 2016 Olympic Games as she will try to improve upon her 4th place finish in the open water event from London.

Coming back from injury is incredibly frustrating and can be humiliating, but the University of Georgia’s Rachel Zilinskas is back in the pool and improving fast. Keep it up, Rachel!

This is just the first of many birthday tweets we saw this week. Long course butterfly, also known as everybody’s favorite birthday gift, is such a treat. But the lady’s gotta perfect that first 100 of her 400 IM! Even if it means doing meters and meters of butterfly in the long pool…

The fastest female sprint butterflier ever, Sarah Sjostrom, just turned 22. Not many of us can say we hold world records in not one, but two events! Happy birthday, Sarah!

The Dutch sprinter is no longer a 20-something, but she’s still got game; Dekker finished 4th overall at the 2015 Kazan World Championships with her time of 25.64 in the 50m fly.

Too cute… but don’t be distracted; the new mother and former world record holder is back in the pool after a break from the sport following the 2013 Barcelona World Championships, and broke 59 seconds in her 100m fly en route to a 4th place finish at U.S. Nationals.

Congrats to American Marcus Titus, who broke his own Deaf WR in the men’s 100 free at the World Deaf Swimming Championships which took place in San Antonio, TX, this week. Titus also won the 50 free at these championships with a new WR time of 23.34, and took home the 100 breast gold medal as well. Titus is a 2010 graduate of the University of Arizona.

And another happy birthday to Natalie Coughlin, who had a great summer competing at the Pan Am Games where she collected some hardware and grabbed her 60th international medal. Age is definitely just a number for this amazing woman.

Mr. Phelps has graced this Top Ten list many many times this summer, but we couldn’t NOT include this here. Phelps won the 100m butterfly at the 2008 Olympic Games to earn his seventh gold of the meet, tying the great Mark Spitz‘ record of seven golds in one Games. What. A. Race. Watch the video above to see footage from that race and more during his historic meet in Beijing.

Wasn’t that his seventh gold? The eighth was the 4×100 medley.
