Summer Juniors Qualifier Maxim Polovinkin Commits To Wyoming (2023)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Maxim Polovinkin has announced his commitment to continue his education and swimming career at the University of Wyoming this upcoming fall. Polovinkin is wrapping up his senior year at Leland High School in San Jose, California.

He shared his commitment on Instagram:

Polovinkin is a breaststroke and IM specialist, and trains year-round with Quicksilver Swimming, also located in the San Jose area. He recently had a strong showing at the Novato Speedo Sectionals in March, highlighted by his best time performance in the 100 breaststroke. He took just under a second off his best time to post a 56.19, good for 7th overall. He additionally earned top-eight finishes in the 200 IM (1:53.28) and 200 breast (2:04.07), finishing 5th and 7th, respectively.

He competed at Winter Juniors – West in December, where he earned his highest finish at 69th in the 100 breaststroke (56.94). His other individual events included the 200 breast (2:05.22) and 200 IM (1:53.15), but was also the freestyle leg of his team’s 200 medley relay (21.23) and the 2nd leg of the 200 freestyle relay (21.03).

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 breast – 26.25
  • 100 breast – 56.19
  • 200 breast – 2:02.28
  • 200 IM – 1:52.87

The University of Wyoming is located in Laramie, Wyoming. The men’s team competes in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), where they recently finished 4th out of six teams. Sophomore Quinn Cynor was the team’s lone winner at conference, as he picked up 1st in the 200 fly (1:44.30).

Junior John Wargin and 5th-year Grant Sloan both competed in the A-final of the 100 breaststroke at the WAC Championships this year, with Wargin ending up 5th (54.12) and Sloan taking 7th (54.33). In the 200 breaststroke, 5th-year David Mihalic was the top finisher at 11th (2:00.55). Polovinkin is projected to score in both breaststroke events, which should help with depth as the Cowboys’ breaststroke group starts to turn over.

Joining Polovinkin in Wyoming’s incoming class of 2027 is Derek Long, Adam Pannell, Kane Kriz, and Drew Ravegum. Ravegum and Kriz also swim breaststroke events, owning best times of 56.74/2:00.52 and 56.85/2:01.76, respectively.
