On the first day of competition at the North Sea Swim Meet in Rogaland, Norway four athletes put up times that landed them in the top ten of the world rankings.
Danish star Jeanette Ottesen won the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 24.25. With that time she beats her previous season’s best of 24.70 and puts her sixth in the world rankings.
Ari-Pekka Liukkonen of Finland took the men’s 50 freestyle in a time of 21.37. Liukkonen was only three one-hundredths of a second off his Finnish record of 21.34, which he posted in 2012. His time is a season’s best and places him tenth in the world rankings.
Rikke Moller Pedersen of Denmark won the women’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.48, which beats her season’s best of 1:06.09. With that time Pedersen is currently ranked eighth in the world.
Pal Joensen of the Faroe Islands took the men’s 800 freestyle with ease finishing in a time of 7:46.62, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the next competitor. Joensen’s time places him eighth in the world rankings.
The North Sea Swim meet runs from November 7th to November 9th. All races can be viewed on the meet’s website.
