Seahawk Splash donates $75000 to help fund UNC-W’s scholarships

Seahawk Splash, the all-ages swim school formed to raise money for the UNC-Wilmington swim program, has donated $75,000 to the team’s scholarship fund, according to the Port City Daily.

Seahawk Splash officially donated the check in a ceremony during a men’s basketball game last week. The money will go to support scholarships on the men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams.

Both UNC-W swimming & diving programs were slated to be cut back in 2013, but have persevered on, thanks to outstanding fundraising efforts by the team, alumni and supporters.

Former UNC-W head coach Dave Allen was the founder of Seahawk Splash, and the group also swimming alums Bob Blum and David Sokolofsky, according to the story in the Port City Daily.

The UNC-W men are the 13-time defending champions of the Colonial Athletic Association, winning last year’s title under first-year head coach Jason Memont.
