Swimming news, Michael Andrew 100 meter butterfly NAG Record, reported by Braden Keith:
14-year old pro swimmer has broken most of the 13-14 yards National Age Group Records in the last year. Now he’s begun into the meters marks as well with just over a month to go before his 15th birthday.
On Friday evening, in his first final, Andrew swam a 54.59 in the 100 long course meters fly at the Plantation, Florida sectional championship meet. That knocks four-tenths off of his previous best time of 54.98 from the U.S. Open last summer, and also breaks the 2011 National Age Group Record held by Justin Lynch in 54.80 from 2011.
Lynch would go on to break Michael Phelps’ 15-16 mark last summer in the same event.
That swim placed him 2nd overall in the meet, behind only Croatian Olympian Mario Todorovic, who won in 54.43.
Andrew split 26.1/28.4 in that race en route to his final mark. The winner of that race, the 25-year old Todorovic, was out much faster in 25.4, but slipped to a 29.0 on his last 50.
Once this record is ratified, Andrew will add it to 13-14 long course marks previously set in:
- the 50 free (23.19)
- the 100 back (57.13)
- the 100 breast (1:03.83)
- the 200 IM (2:04.13)

I want this information as well.
Any idea how Michael handles warm-up and warm-down for each race. Does he do a 200 followed by a few fast 25s, go race, and then do a 5-10 minute warm-down?
100 fly 15/16 NAG record is 52.75 by the future US dominant swimmer in that event (in my opinion) Justin Lynch.
I see Michael Andrew around 53.50/53.75 next summer.
What is the best stroke of Mr Andrew right now?
Back? Breast? Fly? Free?
And in the future?
IM. He is an IMer… who happens to also sprint quite well.
How many (SCM,LCM,SCY) NAG’s for 13-14 does Michael have now?
Chris – there’s no official SCM records in the U.S.
He’s got 9 SCY and 6 LCM records.
Thanks! Guess I gave myself away as a masters swimmer : )
I didn’t know where to post the video of another NAG record from last weekend so I do it here.
Women’s 200 breast 11/12 NAG record. 2.15.64 by Alexandra Walsh at the Connecticut age group championships.

His stroke is great for long course. It’s interesting how, in my opinion his underwaters are average at best. He knows how to get up and race with the best of them. I’d love to be able to watch a week of these practices.
Does anyone have videos of his 11-12 NAGs anymore? Would be interesting to compare.
There’s quite a few on youtube of his 11/12 races. Just plug in his name….
