Pratt Dominates Canadian Age Groups for the Second Straight Night

13 year old Cole Pratt of the Cascade Swim Club won two events in Alberta provincial record time on the first night of competition at the Canadian Age Group Championships and repeated that feat again on Thursday. Pratt won both the boy’s 13 and under 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke in provincial record time.

He took the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.10, finishing a second and a half ahead of the field, taking down Joshua Young‘s Alberta record of 55.41. He won the 50 backstroke in a time of 28.78 breaking the Alberta record of 29.32 set by Anders Klein in 2011.

12 year old Stephanie Lee of the Pacific Sea Wolves Swim Club also won the 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke. Lee posted a time of 58.98 in the 100 freestyle taking the girl’s 12 and under age group title. She also set a new British Columbia provincial record breaking the previous mark of 59.59 set by Danica Ludlow in 2009.

Lee won her third event of the competition taking the 50 backstroke in a time of 31.28. She also collected gold in the 200 backstroke on Wednesday evening.

Jacob Gallant of the Fredrickton Aquanauts Swim Team destroyed the competition in the 13 and under 400 IM winning the event in a time of 4:50.84. The 13 year old finished over six seconds ahead of the field and demolished the New Brunswick provincial record of 5:04.65 put up by Adam Ferguson in 1997.

Kayla Sanchez of the Markham Aquatic Club had another strong evening winning her third event of the competition posting a time of 57.02 in the girl’s 15 year old age group. Sanchez also finished second in the 400 IM. She was beat by her teammate Victoria Kwan who took the event in a time of 4:57.49.

The Pointe-Claire Swim Club still has a small lead in the men’s team standings finishing the evening with 488 points compared to the Cascade Swim Club’s 478 points. The Markham Aquatic Club has a comfortable lead in the women’s standings having collected 478.5 points followed by Pointe-Claire who finished with 306 points.
