A candidate for the mayor of Paris is proposing some grand ideas to liven up the city by making use of inactive Paris Metro stations. One possibility? An underground swimming pool.
Somewhere around a dozen Paris Metro stations sit dormant, inactive after being closed during World War II for budget reasons. With only a few of the stations serving any current purpose (one is currently used for film shoots and the other to shelter homeless Parisians), mayoral candidate Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet has proposed a number of imaginative uses for the dormant spaces.
One such idea is an underground swimming pool, according to this Slate blog, which also carries a sketch of what a pool in a metro station might look like.
Although the subway station looks too small to hold much deck space, or enough lanes to ever host a competition, it does look like an intriguing place to power out a workout or even host swim clinics.
Kosciusko-Morizet said if elected she will look for input from Parisians for more ideas on how to utilize the empty metro stations. Several more ideas she has suggested include a nightclub, theater, restaurant or art gallery.
She has almost no chance of winning.
Fortunately for Paris.
That looks like an attractive indispersable chloramine bubble already.
