Only One Scratch Out Of Circle Seeds At Day 2 Prelims

2017 MEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

There’s only one scratch out of the circle-seeded heats at the first morning prelims session of men’s NCAAs – Michigan IMer Jacob Montague.

Montague came in with the 18th seed at 1:43.58. The Michigan freshman is more of a breaststroker, seeded to score in both breaststroke events. He’s also the likely breaststroker on Michigan’s 400 medley relay, which will close the session tonight. Michigan is seeded 18th in that relay and will need a big swim to score points.

Of 73 entered 200 IMers, only 49 will swim tonight. That event seems to be a natural tertiary event for a number of stroke specialists whose teams may find it more productive to focus on a relay leg than swim an IM with a seed well outside of scoring range, especially with how fast the 200 IM has gotten nationally.

Five guys scratched out of the 500 freestyle and 6 out of the 50 free. All relays are still slated to compete.

Why did Javier Acevedo even enter the 200 IM? Is it an UGA team rule that everyone has to swim the IM? No sprinting allowed?

This article has a me a little confused. You say only one scratch but it seems as though there are many more than that. Also six scratches in the 50 free but you have four listed? I must be missing some information here, could someone please help me out?

To be honest I feel like this article is confusingly written, but that could be because I don’t full understand whats going on.

confused – the article says out of the top 50 seeded swimmers, not out of the entire entry lists.
