Danica Garbett, who trains with the Newmarket Stingrays in Ontario, Canada, has committed to Bowling Green State University. Garbett is an IM and Breaststroke specialist who will step right into the Falcons’ lineup:
- 200 IM- 2:18.15 SCM (2:04.45 SCY)
- 400 IM- 4:52.66 SCM (4:23.65 SCY)
- 200 Breaststroke- 2:36.21 (2:20.72 SCY)
- 100 Breaststroke- 1:13.00 (1:05.76 SCY)
Garbett was the Ontario Provincial Champion in the 400 IM this year in her age group (16 years old). She has also made it into the B-Final at Canada’s most recent Pan-American Games trials. Her improvement curve has been steep over the last year, she’s improved twelve seconds in her 400 IM over the last year and eight seconds in the 100 breaststroke.
Her times in the IM would put her at the top of Bowling Green’s squad right now in the early part of the season. In addition, she would have been in the top eight at the 2015 MAC Championship in the 400 IM while her 200 IM time would put her just outside the A-Final. Bowling Green has a new coach in Matt Ense, who as a Denison assistant helped undo Kenyon’s NCAA winning streak. Ense is off to a hot start with the commitment of Garbett as he tries to pull the Falcons up in the MAC.
