NTN’s Garrett Kemp Verbally Commits to Western Illinois

The Western Illinois University Fighting Leathernecks have secured a verbal commitment from Garrett Kemp of Westlake, Texas. Kemp attends Westlake Academy, a charter school operating under the International Baccalaureate curriculum.

“As soon as I met the team I felt that I connected with them and would feel at home. I also felt that the coach had great attention to detail and knew each swimmer very well. The two combined made for a big family that I am excited to be a part of!”

Kemp swims for North Texas Nadadores, where he is a rather versatile 100/200 free/fly/back specialist. His most successful short course meet over the last couple of seasons has been the LAC Big 10 Stampede, from which most of his best SCY times are derived.

  • 200 back – 1:57.40
  • 200 fly – 1:57.79
  • 100 fly – 53.56
  • 200 free – 1:47.95
  • 100 free – 49.44
  • 50 free – 22.66
  • 200 IM – 2:02.96

Western Illinois men’s swimming and diving team finished fourth at 2016 Summit League Championships, but had only 1 finalist in the men’s 200 back, where Kemp would have scored in the B final. In the butterfly events the Fighting Leathernecks had 2 A finalists, including 100 fly champion Chris Neaveill and his older brother, Tyler Neaveill.
