One of the ways that many communities honour their local athletes is to name new facilities after their sporting heroes.
After having a summer where he won European Championship gold in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, gold in the 100 breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games and set world records in the 50 breaststroke and the 4 x 100 mixed medley relay, Adam Peaty is definitely deserving of such an honour.
On January 17th the Uttoxeter, Peaty’s hometown, opened the Uttoxeter Leisure Centre. The centre has several different facilities included, but the 25 meter pool is named after Peaty.
The pool is equipped to host competitions with a capacity to seat 140 spectators.
