The Midland University swimming team has officially announced the signing of Ashley Black as the first recruit for its women’s program.
A product of Ralston High School, Black will attend Midland in the fall and swim for the Lady Warriors during their inaugural 2017-18 season.
“We are so proud to call Ashley the newest member of our growing Midland University swim family as our first-ever female signee,” said Midland head coach Ryan Bubb. “She is an incredibly hard worker not only in the pool, but as a member of her community as she’s always striving to make a difference which will make her a perfect fit at Midland. Ashley has high goals and aspirations and is exactly the type of swimmer who can be a cornerstone on which to build our team culture.”
Originally from Seattle, Washington, Black holds school records in both the 50 (24.77 seconds) and 100 (54.07 seconds) freestyle at Ralston. She is also a member of Swim Omaha club team. She has helped lead Ralston to state in four consecutive seasons where the Rams have placed in the top eight in three of those years.
“I’m so excited to be a Warrior,” Black said on her signing day. “I’ve looked forward to swimming collegiately for years now, and couldn’t have found a more perfect fit. To be a part of Midland University and the Fremont community is a dream come true. I’m equally as excited to begin studying criminal justice and working towards my career as a police officer. I’m looking forward to serving the community, and feel like the possibilities are endless for me at Midland.”
Ashley was joined at the signing by her mother, Tiar, and coach Docker Heartfield.
