Michigan’s Kata Utassy Named CWPA Division I Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Kata Utassy (Jr., Budapest, Hungary/Konyves Kalman Secondary School) contributed three goals and three assists to factor in two-thirds of No. 12-ranked the University of Michigan’s scoring during a 9-8 victory at No. 17 Indiana University on Saturday, April 8.  For her performance, Utassy is named the April 10 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Player of the Week.

A three-time (March 1, April 12, April 26) CWPA Division I Rookie of the Week selection during the 2021 season, Utassy earns her fourth Player of the Week nod in 2023 after taking the January 16, January 23 and April 3 honors.

The victory over the Hoosiers marked the program’s 12-consecutive defeat of Indiana dating back to April of the 2015 season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: LINDSEY LUCAS, PRINCETON

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Lindsey Lucas (Fr., Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) of No. 6-ranked Princeton University made 25 saves in the span of two league games in New England to take the April 10 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week award .

The honor marks her seventh of the season as she previously claimed the January 30 and February 28 CWPA Division I Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards along with notice as the February 13 and April 3 Defensive Player of the Week.

Competing on Saturday, April 8, she swatted away 12 scoring tries in a 12-10 overtime win at No. 15 Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., prior to tacking on 13 saves at No. 21 Brown University in Providence, R.I., to help the Tigers post an 8-5 victory.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: SHANNA DAVIDSON, PRINCETON

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Shanna Davidson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) of No. 6-ranked Princeton University posted two goals, three assists, three field blocks and four ejections drawn during a 2-0 league weekend for the Tigers in New England to earn laurels as the April 10 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Rookie of the Week.

A three-time Rookie of the Week selection following previous honors on February 13 and April 3, she tallied a goal and a pair of assists in a 12-10 overtime win at No. 15 Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday, April 8, prior to tacking on a goal an a helper in an 8-5 downing of host/No. 21 Brown University in Providence, R.I., later in the day.
