Matheus Santana had a fantastic meet last week in Brazil. He won several events, and recorded the fastest time for a 17 year old in the 100 freestyle at 49.49. It is clear he is still working on fine tuning his race strategies, as he almost even-split a 1:52.6 200 LCM freestyle the night before.
As reported by SwimSwam’s Jared Anderson:
On day three, last Friday, three swimmers appeared set for a big-time 100 free battle in Junior-1 coming out of prelims, but Matheus Santana tore those predictions to pieces, blowing away the field in a meet record and lifetime-best 49.49, the best time for a 17-year-old in Brazilian history. Gabriel da Silva Santos took second in 50.72 and Guilherme Ocampo was just behind in 50.75 – he’s had a great meet, coming into the weekend with a lifetime-best of just 52.01.

Jared,
Santana 200 free time was 1:51:61(56:53/55:08).Lets see if he can improve this week with full rest and taper.
A bit off-topic:Cesar Cielo is gonna pass most of his time next year in US, to avoid WorldCup scenary down here.He will probably swim a lot of meets in US.We will probably see him doing some yards meeting. It will be good if he swims a 50free well rested and bury his 18.47.
