CHICAGO, ILL. – Manchester University’s inaugural campaign produced another first Saturday, Dec. 6.
MU’s women knocked off Eureka and Lincoln Colleges of Illinois with a 54-point effort to end second in the four-team field at Illinois Tech. The host Scarlet Hawks claimed the top spot with 114 points. The victories over Eureka and Lincoln marked the first such for either the men’s or women’s programs.
The quintet of freshmen Ally Roskos (Elkhart, Ind.), Annika Harley (Madison, Wis.) and Emily Clark (Peru, Ind.), sophomore Victoria Rundquist (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and senior Kara Olson (Angola, Ind.) etched out season best marks to lead the way. Roskos finished with 231 points in one meter, six dives; 168.95 points in one meter, five dives; and 396.85 points in one meter, 11 dives. Clark swam season bests in the 200 meter freestyle (2:19.55) and 200 meter intermediate (2:43.04) events, while Rundquist did so in the 100 meter backstroke (1:13.11), and Olson turned in a top season effort in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:26.44).
Manchester University’s men’s team totaled 13 points in the quadrangular. Senior Josh Collier (Anderson, Ind.) turned in season-best marks in the 100 meter freestyle (56.57 seconds), 200 meter freestyle (2:09.01), and 100 meter breaststroke (1:12.73) races. Junior Phillip Zook (LaFontaine, Ind.) gained season-best times in the 500 meter freestyle (6:10.02) and 100 meter backstroke (1:01.1).
The Spartans break from competition until Saturday, Jan. 17, when they take on Olivet College and Hillsdale Colleges of Michigan at a triangular hosted by Olivet.
