On Day 3 of the Portugal Open Championships, swimmers competed in the finals of the 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, and the 4×100 freestyle relay.
Pedro Miguel Pinotes earned the first win of the day in the men’s 400 IM. He had the fastest time of the day with a 4:25.18. Nuno Goncalo Quintanilha finished second at 4:26.20. Sweden’s Stina Gardell won the women’s 400 IM with a time of 4:45.80. Victoria Kaminskaya finished second with a time of 4:50.05.
Luis Emanuel Vaz won the 200 freestyle with a new national record of 1:48.98. He broke Tiago Andre Venancio’s previous national record of 1:49.02 from 2007. Simon Sjödin finished second with a time of 1:50.08.
Sweden’s Louise Hansson won the women’s 200 freestyle with a time of 2:01.19. Patricia Castro Ortega finished second at 2:02.11.
In the men’s 50 breaststroke, Brazil’s Felipe Lima sprinted through the finish to win with a time of 27.85. Hector Monteagudo Espinosa was second with a 28.59. For the women, Sweden tour through the 50 breaststroke, sweeping the event with Jennie Johansson, Jessica Billquist, and Jessica Eriksson finished 1-2-3. Johansson was first with a 31.06, followed by a 32.30 from Bilquist and a 32.59 from Eriksson.
The final individual events of the day were the men’s and women’s 200 backstroke. Pedro Diogo Oliveira from Louisville won the men’s 200 IM with a 2:03.17. Miguel Duarte Nascimento was just behind him for second with a 2:03.35. Michelle Coleman finished the Swedish take over, winning the final individual event for Sweden. She posted the fastest time of the day at 2:13.71. Ida Lingborg finished second with a time of 2:14.79.
