Luca Urlando on NCAA Title: “It has felt like years of setbacks to get to a moment like this”

2025 Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

After the race, Urlando reflected on the journey he has taken to get to this point, including dealing with multiple injuries and taking an Olympic redshirt which saw him move to ASU to train with Bob Bowman.

I had kind of forgotten that a year ago, Sarkany, Kos, and Urlando were all training at ASU. Now they’re all NCAA champs at different schools…

very cool to see this, feels somewhat like Hugo’s 400 IM win in 2022. Love seeing comeback stories and this guy had so much potential coming out of HS that it’s great to see him live up to it.

Luca is living proof that setbacks don’t have to put limits on one’s success! From being at the top, to surgery, to building back, to Team USA Olympian, and now NCAA Champion 🥇

Incredible stuff from Luca, his coaches, and teams at UGA and DART 💪
