LIU Women’s Water Polo Bets VMI, 21-12

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked LIU women’s water polo team extended their win streak to four straight Thursday night, beating VMI in the program’s first ever home match, 21-12.

VMI would go up early in the game, taking a 4-3 lead after the first period. But the Sharks came back to tie it up and take the lead in the second, outscoring VMI 10-1, and never looking back.

LIU eventually took the win, 21-12. Jessica Dean led LIU with seven goals and four assists, while Diba Peiravani had five goals and two assists. Elena Camarena had five goals and five assists, while Jeannet Garcia had three goals.

Up next, LIU hosts La Salle and Villanova in two games, Saturday, April 24.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The 24th-ranked Long Island University women’s water polo team defeated VMI 21-12 Thursday evening in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest.

Red-shirt junior McKenna Imset scored seven times while Catherine and Rachel Ahumada each had a goal and three assists. Rachel Ahumada had three drawn exclusions as well.

Sydney Shettleroe, Gia Donatelli and Makenna Moore each had a goal while Kiara Anguiano, Genevieve Petrassi, Maddie Berry and Caragh Osborne had an assist apiece. Moore and Osborne each recorded two steals. Katie Lloyd made seven stops in net.

Jessica Dean led LIU (4-0/4-0 MAAC) with seven goals and four assists while Elena Camarena had five goals and five assists.

VMI (4-9/1-4 MAAC) will continue its New York swing this weekend, playing at Siena and Marist (twice) College Saturday and Iona College Sunday.
