Laval University To Host The 2016 CIS Championships

Canadian Interuniversity Sport and Canada Swimming announced the location of the 2016 Speedo CIS Championships today. The CIS championship will be returning to Quebec City for the fifth time since 1980.

Laval Swimming recently built their new pool with the intention of hosting national and international events. Christian Gagnon, the director of athletics at Laval University, said, “We are obviously very excited about this opportunity offered by CIS… Our core activity is to serve the university community, and after hosting the world synchronized swimming championship and the Canadian water polo championship, we are pleased to welcome CIS swimming, as always within the framework of our partnership with the City of Quebec.”

The three day meet is set to take place February 25th – 27th and will feature the top university swimmers in the country. Quebec City has hosted the meet four times, but this will be the first time in the new natatorium. Previously, the CIS Championships have been hosted in Quebec City in 1980, 1986, 1995, and 2006.

“With the reputation of our swimming program, our exceptional facilities and the quality of our event organizers, there is no doubt these championships will be a great success.” – Laval University’s Gilles Lépine

Canadian Interuniversity Sport is the national governing body of university sport in Canada.
