Kenyon Women Sweep Double Dual At ONU

ADA, Ohio – The Kenyon College women’s swimming and diving team split Friday night to compete at Ohio Northern University and at the University of Cincinnati. During a double dual at Ohio Northern, the Ladies cruised to a 136-54 win over the host Polar Bears, while also chalking up a 148-66 win against the Oberlin College Yeowomen.

At Cincinnati, the Ladies started the first day of a two-day meet against the host Bearcats, as well as the Golden Grizzlies from Oakland University. At the conclusion of Friday night’s events, the Ladies trailed both of those NCAA Division I teams. Oakland ended the night in first place with 319 points. Cincinnati was a close second with 318 points and Kenyon was third with 194 points.

Back at Ohio Northern, the Ladies won 11 of the 13 scheduled events, recorded two team wins and moved their overall dual meet record to 3-4.

Individually, the Ladies had a couple of swimmers win a pair of events. Senior Princess Vilan Ferguson-Nguyen swept the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events in respective times of 55.63 and 2:04.07. Freshman Maggie Foight tacked on wins in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley. Her winning times were 1:10.36 and 4:44.98.

In distance events, seniors Julia Green and Scout Wilkins took control for Kenyon. Green started the afternoon by winning the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:07.90. Later, Wilkins took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle by clocking in at 5:34.56.

Paige Haden, another Kenyon senior, won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.23, while two freshmen accounted for the Ladies’ other two individual-event victories. That pair included Ella Campbell, who won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.57, and Ciara Mulcahy, who won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.23.

The Ladies will remain a split squad Saturday, as one half of the team remains in Cincinnati to finish off that two-day meet in the morning and the other half will travel to Ashland University to take on the Eagles beginning at 1 p.m.
