IM’er Carlos Lattanzi Signs With CSU-Bakersfield For 2024-25 Season

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Carlos Lattanzi of Sedona, Arizona, has announced his commitment to further his education and swimming career at California State University, Bakersfield. Lattanzi is a member of the Race Pace Club, and is a graduate of Sedona Red Rock High School. He’s set to arrive on campus this upcoming fall for the 2024-2025 season.

I would like to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at California State University Bakersfield. I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches who have supported me throughout these many years. I chose CSUB because I felt it was the best fit for me to help me achieve my goals.”

Lattanzi swims a mix of middle-distance freestyle and IM. His best event is the 400 IM, which he qualified for Winter Junior Nationals in back in 2022. At Winter Juniors, he clocked a 3:59.35 to take 54th overall, but was off his personal best of 3:57.56 from that March. He hasn’t quite reached that time since then, but has been as fast as 3:58.27 this past spring.

Although his 400 IM has hit a bit of a plateau, Lattanzi has seen significant drops across the middle-distance freestyle races. In December, he dropped nearly a second in the 200 free to post a 1:42.54, while in the 500 he knocked off almost four seconds to clock a 4:30.54.

Top SCY Times

  • 200 free – 1:42.54
  • 500 free – 4:30.54
  • 1650 free – 16:03.56
  • 200 breast – 2:05.78
  • 200 IM – 1:51.86
  • 400 IM – 3:57.56

The CSUB men were the 6th place finishers at the 2024 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships with a total of 289 points. Lattanzi should make a big impact at the conference level, as his best times in the 500, 400 IM, and 1650 all would have scored this year.

Lattanzi’s best time in the 500 would have been the 2nd fastest on the team behind Vili Sivec, who posted a season best of 4:24.13 at the Big Al Invitational. The 400 IM and 1650 were both led by Jacob Folsom, who posted a 4:00.40 at the MPSF Championship (13th) and a 15:56.79 at the Big Al Invite. Folsom is now graduated, but Sivic will overlap with Lattanzi for two seasons.

Also committed to CSUB for this fall is Hudson Bakke, Colson Lloyd, Tommy Henstein, and Justin Chamberlain
