Santiago Grassi set national records in both the 50 and 100 butterfly at the Argentine Short Course Championships, which was also the selection meet for the 2016 Short Course World Championships. On the first day of competition Grassi, who was the only member of Argentina’s Olympic swim team competing at the meet, won the men’s 50 butterfly in a time of 23.56 breaking the national record of 23.57 set by Marcos Barale in 2009. The next day he returned to the pool to win the 100 butterfly in a time of 51.73 beating his own record of 52.16.
Andrea Berrino set a new national mark in the women’s 100 backstroke taking the event in a time of 58.06. Berrino beat her own record of 58.60. She also won the 50 backstroke in a time of 27.05. With those times she qualifies to swim both events in Windsor later this year.
17 year old Santiago Bergliaffa set a new national record in the men’s 400 IM winning the event in a time of 4:17.60. Bergliaffa broke the record of 4:18.54 set by Esteban Paz in 2012.
Gabriel Morelli broke the 200 breaststroke national record winning the event in a time of 2:12.02. Morelli beat the old record of 2:12.74 set by Rodrigo Frutos in 2010.
