Grace Nuhfer Breaks S13 World Record in 200 Fly (Again)

2025 Pro Swim Series — Sacramento

Swimming center stage as the only B-Finalist in the women’s 200 meter fly on Friday night, Grace Nuhfer crushed the S13 World Record in the event. She swam 2:22.78 that broke the 2018 World Record of 2:24.07 set by Italian Carlotta Gilli.

Nuhfer, 22, trains at the University of Akron, a program with a strong history in the butterfly events. The team has won the last 8 Mid-American Conference Championships in the 200 fly and the last 9 in the 100 fly, including the last three of each from Abby Daniels

This swim is not actually her best time – she swam 2:2212 at a local club meet last May – but that meet was not a World Para Swimming recognized meet and thus was ineligible for World Para Swimming World Records.

Nuhfer has brittle cornea syndrome, which is known to affect fewer than two dozen people worldwide. She made her Para-swimming debut in 2023 at the 2023 California Classic, winning six events and setting an S13 American Record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:30.38.

That qualified her to race at the 2023 Parapan American Games, where she won silver in the 50 free. At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, she took a silver medal in the S13 100 fly – behind the Italian Gilli whose 200 fly record she just broke.

The 200 fly is not a Paralympic Games event.

Nuhfer was recently named to the 2024-2025 CSC Academic All-District Women’s Swimming & Diving Team.
