- The Ligue Européenne de Natation (LEN) has selected Glasgow, Scotland as the hosts of the 2019 European Short Course Swimming Championships. This means that Glasgow will host back-to-back major continental events, after hosting the diving, synchro, and open water portions of the 2018 European Championships.
LEN nominated hosts for several events at its bureau meeting recently in Gothenburg, Sweden. That includes hosts of the next two Champions League Final Six tournaments in men’s water polo and the 2017 Final Four tournament in women’s water polo.

- 2017 European Women’s Champions League Final Four – Kirshi, Russia
- 2017 women’s LEN Trophy – Budapest, Hungary (April)
- 2018 and 2020 European Men’s Champions League Final Six – Genova, Italy (Pro Recco)
- 2019 and 2021 European Men’s Champions League Final Six – Hanover, Germany (Waspo 98 Hannover)
- 2018 U19 Men’s European Water Polo Championships – Minsk, Belarus
- 2018 U19 Women’s European Water Polo Championships – Madeira, Portugal
- 2019 U19 Men’s European Water Polo Championships – Tbilsi, Georgia
- 2019 U19 Women’s European Water Polo Championships – Volos, Greece
Included among the selections are the Champions Leagues for club water polo, with the men’s finals using a new selection methodology. Previously, the same city hosted the event in back-to-back years. Now, LEN has opted to instead award it to two host cities who will alternate duties over a 4 year period.
As for the big one, the European Championships, Glasgow will follow the 2017 host Copenhagen, Denmark in the hosting order. Scotland has never before hosted the European Short Course Championships, with the last UK host being Sheffield in 1998. If Scotland votes on independence by then, they would become the 19th different country to host this event in its 24 editions.
