Louisiana High School double state champ Jared Williams has verbally committed to swim for Georgia Tech, the butterflyer announced on Twitter.
Williams comes out of New Orleans, Louisiana, where he swims for Isidore Newman High School and the Nu Wave Swim Club.
He won Louisiana High School State titles in the 100 fly and 100 breast last season, and has a great shot to repeat that feat this fall. His butterfly is definitely the more impressive of the two strokes on the national level, though, as he’s right on the 50-second barrier in the 100.
Williams’ Top Times
- 100 fly: 50.02
- 100 breast: 59.41
- 50 free: 21.29
Georgia Tech is looking to rebuild a bit with next season’s class, as their current stars Andrew Kosic and Nico van Duijn will graduate in the spring. The team took seventh at last year’s ACC Championships.
It’s important to note that Jared has a best time of 24.20 in the 50 as well in Long course, with last year being his first LC season ever. He didn’t start swimming fully year-round till last year and only swam short course his freshman and sophomore years. It will be interesting to see how he turns out because he is so new to the game. His swimming history and 6’2 frame make his story sound like Cullen Jones when he was in high school!!
