Rebecca Adlington was the 7th out of 12 participants eliminated from season 13 of the reality show “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” on Thursday.
The show puts celebrities in jungle conditions and allows viewers or contestants to ‘vote’ on celebrities that they’d like to see in some sort of jungle-based physical challenge, known as a “Bush Tucker Trial.” Those trials are usually either a challenge to eat something that civilized people might find uncouth among standard British culture (like blended rat tails, or raw fish eyes), or otherwise complete some physical or mental task to ‘gain stars,’ usually something that involves enclosed spaces, animal fecal matter, heights, or some similarly-intimidating challenge.
It’s sort of ‘Fear Factor’ meets ‘Survivor,’ and is one of the biggest reality shows in the United Kingdom.
Adlington survived two of these trials, including one referred to as “Drown Under” that involved her pulling ‘stars’ out of a puzzle as the container she was in filled with water: something that wasn’t necessarily as terrifying to Adlington as it might have been to certain other celebrities. Adlington earned a perfect score on that challenge.
She was finally eliminated, after a lot of public complaints over two medical exemptions from earlier trials. Some had speculated that she might be pregnant, but Adlington has confirmed publicly that she is ‘definitely not’ that.
Adlington was eliminated last night with former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor Alfonso Ribiero.
Adlington was the only Olympian in the field, though there was also a professional snooker player Steve Davis who was earlier eliminated. Still remaining in the competition is David Emanuel, a fashion designer; Amy Willerton, Miss Great Britain 2013; Joey Essex, a “television personality; Kian Egan, a singer; and Lucy Pargeter, an actress.
