Fly/Back Specialist Ely Fryer Commits to Shippensburg Raiders

Ely Fryer from Monocacy Aquatic Club in Frederick, Maryland has verbally committed to Shippensburg University for 2017-18. Fryer shared with SwimSwam, “I chose Shippensburg because it made me feel like I was at home and I was able to see myself as a Raider instantly. Both the team and coaches were amazing.”

Fryer swims mostly backstroke and butterfly, and improved his personal bests in the 100s of both strokes, as well as in the 200 back during 2016. At the Maryland Swimming Senior Short Course Championships in February, Fryer competed in the 50/100 free, 100 back, and 100/200 fly, finaling in all but the 100 free. Over the summer he competed in the LCM 50/100 free, 100 back, and 100 fly at the NBAC Mid-Summer Classic, and in the 50/100 free and 100/200 fly at the College Park Futures Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 fly – 51.75
  • 200 fly – 1:57.22
  • 100 back – 53.28

Fryer would have scored in the B finals of all three of his events at the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference Championships. He will join his Monocacy Aquatic Club teammate, Maddy Verby, who also committed to the Shippensburg University class of 2021.
