FINA Launches New and Improved World Swim Rankings

At long last, FINA has re-launched its own World Swim Rankings in a format with much greater usability and accuracy. The interface mirrors that which USA-Swimming employs for its times reporting, and thus will be familiar to USA-Swimming members.

In addition to the improved user friendliness, the rankings will also have improved accuracy. The accuracy of FINA’s official rankings has long been a complaint, but now, the 202 Individual Member Federations are able to log on and enter their own swimmers’ times.

My favorite feature is the “Advanced Search” that allows for a search through an individual swimmer’s time history. A simple Excel export then allows for data manipulation and analysis. This is a feature that has long been enjoyed for American fans, but FINA now brings us this opportunity for swimmers around the world.

This improved functionality will facilitate improved research and usability for media, fans, coaches, and swimmers alike.
