CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Gracie Redding and sophomore Megan Wakefield have been named the CCSA’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
It becomes Redding’s (Orlando, Fla./The First Academy/FSU) second-career Swimmer of the Week award while Wakefield (Guelph, Ontario, Canada/Centennial CVI) captures her third Diver of the Week honor.
Redding was a member of all four winning relays which helped set the tone for the weekend as FGCU claimed the TYR Classic Meet with 478.5 points overs hosts FIU (C-USA- 454.5) and TCU (Big 12- 390). The Orlando native posted splits of 50.54 swimming freestyle on the 400 medley team and anchored the 200 medley team with a mark of 22.98. In addition, Redding claimed the 50 free title with a swim of 23.56.
“Gracie was a rock star this weekend, coming through for us in every relay was huge and proved to be vital as we came away with a quality team win,” said head coach Dave Rollins.
Wakefield continued to tack on the point total for the Green and Blue on day two to secure the meet victory. On the 3-meter dive, the sophomore placed second on the boards with a score of 234.80, collecting 17 crucial points. On top of that, the Ontario native finished 11th on the 1-meter board, bringing in an extra six points to extend the Eagles’ lead as part of a 234 point total on the final day of the meet.
“Congratulations to Megan!” added Rollins. “After her strong performances that helped us with the TYR Classic, it’s definitely a well-deserved honor.”
