Matthew McGoey, a senior at McDonogh School, has signed an NLI to swim for Bucknell University in the fall. McGoey is a four-year member of the McDonogh varsity swim team and has been with Eagle Swim Team for six years.
“Bucknell had everything I wanted in a college environment, both in its academic reputation and a great swim team. I know it’s the place I want to call home for the next four years.”
McGoey is primarily a sprint freestyler, breaststroker, and IMer who has made great strides during his junior and senior years of high school. Some examples of his progression in short course yards include:
2016 | 2015 | 2014 | |
50 free | 21.20 | 21.19 | 21.79 |
100 breast | 57.19 | 57.78 | 1:02.19 |
200 breast | 2:06.31 | 2:15.97 | 2:20.24 |
100 back | 51.65 | 51.16 | 52.48 |
200 IM | 1:52.86 | 1:53.50 | 1:59.12 |
In the month of April alone McGoey notched personal bests in LCM in the 100/200/1500 free, 50/200 back, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM.
McGoey’s times in the 50 free, 100/200 breast and 200 IM sit just outside the Bucknell all-time top 10, and both his 100 breast and 200 breast would have scored at 2016 Patriot League Championships, in which the Bison men finished fourth.
