Phoebe Lamay, a springboard specialist from Houston, Texas, has signed her National Letter of Intent to dive for the Cal Golden Bears.
Lamay, who was 8th at the 2014 USA Diving National Championships on the 1-meter, is one of the top American diving recruits in the class.
She was the 2014 Texas High School state runner-up on the 1-meter, placing only behind San Antonio star freshman Sine Scribbick.
Lamay only dove the 1-meter at Nationals last year. She’s a very good 3-meter diver as well, but hasn’t dived platform at a National level meet since Junior Nationals in 2011.
Lamay’s focus on the springboard makes her a good fit for Cal, who doesn’t have diving platforms of their own until their new aquatics facility, with no groundbreaking date set, opens. Of course, Cal’s All-American diver the last three seasons has been Kahley Rowell, a platform specialist, meaning that if Lamay wouldn’t be left-to-dry if she and the Cal coaches decided to return her to the platform as a collegian.
Ha! Interesting add for the Golden Bears… great diver, strange team dynamic
I like that both Dave and Teri are tapping into Texas for diving recruits.
