Caspar Corbeau is a competitive swimmer who has dual citizenship between the United States and the Netherlands.
High School
Corbeau was a multi-medalist at the European Jr Championships. In 2018 he won bronze in the 200 breast, while in 2019 he won silver in the 100 and 200 breast and bronze in the 50 breast. He also earned gold in the 200 breast and silver in the 100 breast at the 2017 European Youth Olympics.
Corbeau was ranked #6 on SwimSwam’s Top 20 NCAA Recruits for the Class of 2019, and #4 in the Re-rank of that class. On January 15, 2018, Corbeau announced his verbal commitment to swim for Texas.
College (Texas)
Corbeau continued his progress during his first semester in Austin. At the mid-season Minnesota Invite, he recorded career best times in the 100 (51.46) and 200 breast (1:52.06).
At his first Big 12 Championships, Corbeau took titles in the 100 (52.55) and 200 breast (1:53.55). He also took 3rd in the 200 IM (1:45.43) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay.
International
2024 Olympic Games (Paris, France)
Corbeau kicked things off in the 100 breast with a bang, leading prelims with a 59.04. He was .2 off of that in the semis but still made the finals in 5th with a 59.24. In the final, Corbeau struggled, finishing 8th with a 59.98. The whole final was historically slow, and his prelims time would have won silver.
Corbeau returned in the 200 breast, posting a 2:09.78 to qualify 4th for the semis. There, he maintained seed with a 2:09.52. In the final, Corbeau seemed to be having a very similar race to his prior swims, turning in 4th with a 29.19. Then, Corbeau turned on the jets with a 32.21 split, far faster than either his prelims or semis splits. That moved him to the head of the pack trailing Leon Marchand. His 3rd 50 was quite a bit slower than his 2nd with a 33.37 but was on par with the previous swims. Zac Stubblety-Cook moved past him into 2nd but Corbeau held off a late charge from Dong Zhihao with a 33.13 final 50 to secure Olympic bronze in a 2:07.90.
Corbeau was key for in the 400 medley relay, delivering a 58.94 breast split in prelims to help the Dutch qualify 4th. The entire relay added time in the final, including Corbeau who split a 59.19, as they finished 8th. Earlier, Corbeau had split 59.04 on the mixed 400 medley relay to help the Dutch finish 6th in the final.
