Aiden Hayes Sets 100 Butterfly 17-18 NAG Record At 2022 NCAA Championships

2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

During the Friday prelims session of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, NC State freshman, Aiden Hayes broke the 17-18 National Age Group Record in the 100 butterfly. 

This morning, Hayes posted a 44.78 in the prelims to qualify 8th for tonight’s A-Final, breaking Tom Shields’s NAG Record from 2010 (44.91).

Hayes was seeded 35th on the psych sheets with his time from the 2022 ACC Championships (45.79), where he placed 7th. Hayes’s previous lifetime best was 45.47 seconds, which he swam at the 2021 Oklahoma Class 6A State Meet. That time  broke Joseph Schooling’s National High School Record in the 100 butterfly

Hayes will have another shot at lowering the 100 butterfly NAG record during Friday night’s A-Final.

At the 2022 ACC Championships, Hayes broke the 17-18 NAG Record in the 200 butterfly (1:40.39) to place 3rd in the event.  Hayes will swim the 200 butterfly on Saturday. He is seeded 10th with his NAG record.
