The Head Coach will be expected to embody and promote CW’s core values of Value, Inspiration, and Engagement—creating an environment where every athlete feels supported, challenged, and proud to be part of the CW family.
Position Summary
The Head Coach will be responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and daily operations of CW’s swim program. This includes coaching, staff development, athlete progression, parent and community engagement, and alignment with CW’s mission and values.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in high-performance coaching, experience within elite collegiate or club environments, and a commitment to innovation through sport science and evidence-based training. CW seeks a leader who can build on the club’s legacy and elevate its national presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the swim program, from age group to elite senior levels
- Develop and implement a cohesive coaching philosophy and long-term athlete development model
- Champion a high-performance culture with measurable outcomes at the local, regional, and national levels
- Mentor and manage a team of assistant coaches, fostering professional growth and alignment across training groups
- Conduct regular evaluations and provide professional development opportunities for assistant coaches to ensure consistency and excellence across all training groups
- Foster a collaborative, athlete-centered environment that emphasizes excellence, accountability, and personal development
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and administrative staff on strategic planning, budgeting, and club operations
- Leverage Ann Arbor’s elite swimming ecosystem—including partnerships with collegiate programs and regional talent pools—to enhance the club’s training environment
- Guide and support athletes and families through the collegiate recruiting process, including program identification, NCAA/NAIA compliance, and preparation of recruiting materials
- Maintain proactive and transparent communication with parents to foster trust, alignment, and shared support for athlete development
- Demonstrate commitment to holistic athlete development, including character-building, academic balance, and life skills
- Cultivate a cohesive, inclusive, and positive team culture where athletes feel valued, supported, and motivated
- Demonstrated ability to lead with professionalism, consistency, and a composed, solutions-oriented mindset
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of progressive coaching experience, including leadership at the senior or head coach level
- Proven track record of developing swimmers at the national, collegiate, or international level
- Experience leading or contributing to a large, performance-driven swim program, even if within a single-site or collegiate structure
- Deep technical knowledge of stroke mechanics, training cycles, and race strategy
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with athletes, families, and staff
- Current USA Swimming coach certifications and background check clearance

- Experience with multi-level athlete development and familiarity with the dynamics of club-based programming

- Proven ability to cultivate a strong, unified team culture and serve as a mentor to athletes in both athletic and personal development
