Katie Ledecky, at age 28, wowed swim fans everywhere last month when she broke her own world record in the 800 free (8:04.12), a mark that had stood for 9 years (8:04.79). Last night in Indianapolis, Ledecky showed she was still very much on form, swimming the #3 time ever in the 800 free (8:05.76), behind only the two aforementioned swims. The 14x Olympic medalist says this has been in the works, as she has felt fast in practice all season, even pushing a 15:49 1500m free (LCM) in a practice suit in the fall.
Such a flex. Awesome!!!
Pool was rocking last night during her 800 swim. Everyone was standing and yelling for Katie. Great to see in person
I heard Schooling went a 12:05 1500 from a push
He must have been pissed
It’s actually just so nice to see someone who genuinely loves the sport so much – after dedicating the majority of her life to it – be reaching peaks she hasn’t been at for ~10 years. She so deserves it, and you can’t help but cheer her on, what a legend of the sport.
Only 16 women (3 Americans) have been faster than she went in practice, in a practice suit, from a push.
Absolutely insane. Although “from a push” in a 1500 might not be the biggest caveat lol
I read “from a push” to mean it was just part of the practice that she went fast on, not a set specifically designed to race a 1500 – but I agree a dive has little affect on the overall time
Undisputed female GOAT in swimming!
Mount Rushmore of females of any sport
LEGEND
I argue she is the greatest swimmer of all time.
No qualifier.
Phelps still got the crown but Ledecky definitely deserves her flowers
I would say she is the greatest freestyler of all time, period. The range that she has had, the number of years at the top, and just the fact that she DOES NOT COAST, is just awesome to watch.
Breaking a WR in the 1500 when not trying is pretty goated as well.
💯% on the money, Sean.
Has anyone asked what she is doing differently this year compared to last year? I assume she has changed something up to get such great results
A lot of the questions seemed to be in that mold. She said she’s been healthier than last year which is an indicator.
^^^
yes the question was asked is several ways. You can hear her answers – I don’t think anything about her training changed so much as that she’s been healthy this entire year.
Could also be factors outside the pool that aren’t present this year.
Thanks – I guess if she wants to keep it vague, that’s her business.
Honestly, I wonder if she is just managing her POTS better? Like, we are learning more and more about how to handle it and I’m sure she is learning how to listen to her body better. Whatever it is, I am so excited to see her crushing it.
“POTS”? Some help pls…
You literally could have typed this into google instead of in a swimswam comment
Children these days, with the entire world at their fingertips,”help me, do this for me!!”
Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome
POTS = postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome
It’s a disease. It was so severe in 2019 that she suffered in the WC the entire time, but she learned to live with it.
