German Sprinter Katharina Wrede Sends Verbal Commitment to Indiana for 2022-23

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Katharina Wrede from Salzgitter, Germany has announced her verbal commitment to Indiana University’s class of 2026.

“I‘m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Indiana University! It‘s amazing to have the possibility to further my academic and athletic career at a top university in the US with such a great team and many academic offers. GO HOOSIERS!!”

Wrede is junior at Humboldtschule Hannover. She swims for the club team SSG Braunschweig and specializes in sprint freestyle. She represented Germany at 2019 LEN European Junior Swimming Championships and was a semi-finalist in the 50 free. Her prelims swim of 25.91 was a lifetime best at the time, but she lowered it to 25.64 the following year at the Berlin Open. There, she won the bronze medal in the women’s open 50m free (25.64) and was 3rd in prelims of the 17-18 100m free (57.57). Her best time in the 100m free comes from the 2019 German Swimming Championships when she placed 3rd in the 17-year-old age category with 56.95.

Best LCM times (converted to SCY):

  • 50 free – 25.64 (22.37)
  • 100 free – 56.95 (49.86)

Wrede’s best converted times in the 50/100 free would have scored for the Hoosiers in the A and C finals, respectively, at 2021 B1G Women’s Championships. Indiana’s sprint crew was young this year, led by sophomore Ashley Turak (22.51/48.56) and freshmen Elizabeth Broshears (22.51/49.56), Ella Ristic (23.89/49.67), Mia Ristic (23.82/52.76), and Avery Williams (23.33/51.96). Wrede will overlap with all of them when she arrives with fellow class of 2026 verbal commits Avery Spade, Cat Watrous, Chiok Sze Yeo, Gracie Olsen, Kristina Paegle, Lily Hann, MacKenna Lieske, and Mya Dewitt.
