Two-time World Junior Championship medalist Finlay Knox has been announced as one of seven recipients of the 2020 Victor Davis Memorial Award, a fund established to assist young Canadian swimmers to continue their training and pursue excellence on the international stage.
Created in memory of Davis, a four-time Olympic medalist who died in 1989 at the age of 25, the fund awards athletes with bursaries to aid in their training costs.
Knox, 19, recently made the move from his hometown of Okotoks, Alberta to train with coach Ben Titley at the Swimming Canada High Performance Centre – Ontario in Toronto.
“I am very honored to be chosen for this award and it will help support my training while living in Toronto,” Knox told Swimming Canada.
Knox was the silver medalist at the 2019 World Junior Championships in Budapest in the men’s 200 IM, with his time of 1:59.44 making him the second-fastest Canadian of all-time, and he also added a bronze medal as the anchor leg on the men’s 400 medley relay.
In late 2019, Knox competed for the International Swimming League’s London Roar, establishing a new Canadian Record in the SCM 200 IM at the European Derby in London.
