Finland’s Jenna Laukkanen fired off a new National Record-setting effort while competing in the women’s 100 IM at the 2018 FINA Short Course World Championships.

After registering a time of 59.39 in the prelims to capture a spot for the semi-finals, the 23-year-old busted out a monster personal best of 58.60 yesterday evening to take the 6th slot for tonight’s final in Hangzhou. That mark took down a supersuited Finnish National Record in the event of 58.86 set by Hanna-Maria Seppälä way back in Instanbul in 2009. Splitting 26.97/32.13 in that semi, Laukkanen kissed that old mark good-bye by .26.

Although Laukkanen added a bit of time in tonight’s final to settle for 59.11 and 7th place, most of the swimming world rejoices whenever a rubber suit record bites the dust.
