Shayna Jack Lowers Newly-Minted 1Free Aussie Age Group Record

2017 AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

After this morning’s prelims in Brisbane, we reported how 18-year-old Shayna Jack ripped a shiny new personal best and national age group record in the women’s 100m freestyle event, clocking a speedy 53.60 take the 4th seed. The Commercial swimmer followed that performance up with another head-turner in finals, managing to crank out an even faster mark of 53.40 for 4th place overall. In doing so, Jack most likely secured her spot on the Aussie women’s 4x100m freestyle relay for Budapest, an important slot considering Cate Campbell is reportedly sticking to her guns about not competing at the 2017 World Championships.

Jack also lowered her newly-minted national age group record for 18-year-olds in the event, having already overtaken double world champion Bronte Campbell’s previous record with her morning swim. Jack’s split differentials are as follows, with the only speed change occurring on the back-half of the race:

Prelims: 18-year-old NAG Record for Jack – 25.62/27.98 = 53.60
Finals: 18-year-old NAG Record for Jack – 25.62/27.78 = 53.40

Her 53.40 result now checks Jack in as the 6th fastest performer on the Aussies All-Time top 10 list.
