Brazil Takes Home Eleven Medals From CISM Military Open

Team Brazil made quite a splash at the CISM Swimming and Paraswimming Open in Fontainebleau, France this past weekend, taking home a grand total of eleven medals over the four day event.  The meet was organized by the French delegation of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) and ran from February 2nd-6th.

The CISM, originally founded in 1948, is positioned as the world’s second largest multi-sport governing body behind the International Olympic Committee (IOC).  The institution goes by the motto “Friendship Through Sport”, and is responsible for organizing over twenty sporting events, such as the Military World Games and World Military Cup, designed specifically for worldwide military personnel across its member countries.  There are a total of 134 member countries across all continents around the world; country members include Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Hungary, and Italy.

According to CISM regulations, competition in this, or any CISM-sanctioned event, is limited to active service personnel ONLY and, for paraswimming, limited to those active personnel injured in duty.
