Irvine, CA – May 13 – For the first time in 453 days, the number one ranked team in the world of women’s water polo is set to return to international competition. The two-time defending Olympic Champions, Team USA, will host Canada in a three-game series in Southern California next week. The two squads will face off three times between May 17 and 21 in their first head-to-head meeting since the 2019 Holiday Cup in Princeton, New Jersey, a 17-6 win for Team USA.
The series starts on May 17 at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce, California with a 6pm pt sprint. From there, the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, California plays host on May 19 at 2pm pt. The series wraps at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, California on May 21 at 6pm pt.
In compliance with local health guidelines and due to venue capacity limitations, no tickets will be sold for these matches. Guests will consist of athlete family and friends. All three matches will stream live for a nominal fee via Joymo.tv. Live stream links will be shared in the coming days. Live stats will be provided for all matches via TheFosh.net.
These matches serve as preparation for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games where the USA Women’s National Team will look to claim their third straight gold medal. The Team USA Olympic Games roster will be named on June 3. The USA Women open play at the Tokyo Olympics on July 24 against Japan.
