2025 NCAA Women’s Championships Day 4: The Race for Second Place – Who’s Got the Edge?

2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

Not to take ANYTHING away from Virginia, who are well on their way to an historic fifth consecutive NCAA Division I Women’s Championship title, we are consumed with the drama that has taken place over the last three days in the battle for the runner-up trophy.

Here’s the background.

Day 0

Coming into the meet, Texas had a substantial psych sheet advantage over Stanford. We scored out the swimming psych sheet and had Texas projected to place second behind Virginia with 390.5 points. Stanford was seeded fourth with 333. At the conclusion of the Zone diving meets two weeks later, we scored the diving psych sheets and found that Texas was in position to add another 58.5 points on the boards, while Stanford projected to score 2.

  • Texas – 449
  • Stanford – 335

Stanford was ready for the challenge, though. Not sure if it’s due to the short travel time (and no time zone change), perfectly-time tapers, baking soda, or their vocal cheering section, but the Cardinal has proceeded to blow past their seeds in almost every event over the last three and a half days.
