The school bus carrying the Lenape Regional High School girls’ swim team was struck by a car on Tuesday night in Southampton Township, New Jersey. The two people traveling in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. Eight of the 20 swimmers and one adult were taken to the Virtua Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries. The team was headed to Rowan College for their season opener against Seneca High School.
A Volkswagen Passat reportedly crashed into the school bus after crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic. The driver of the Passat was traveling at a high rate of speed on rain-slicken roads when he crossed the center line and hit the bus head-on.
The Lenape Girls’ Swim Team coaches tweeted this morning about how grateful they are that everyone is okay. The Seneca girls’ swim team also chose to wear red in support of the Lenape girls’ swim team today and asked their classmates to do the same.
Girls, words do not express how grateful I am that we are all ok. I love you all so so so much ❤️ L-E-N-A-P-E LENAPE!!!!!

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of everyone on that bus!
And the car that hit the bus. Sad and scary.
