Suroviec Named Gannon’s Interim Head Coach With Walter’s Leave Of Absence

Just before starting his 11th year as head coach at Gannon University, it was announced that coach Nathan Walters would be taking a leave of absence. New details emerged this morning as Walters’ name was removed from the team’s roster. Assistant coach Darren Suroviec is now listed as the Interim Head Coach.

When asked for a comment about the situation, the Gannon Athletic Department was unable to discuss the details of the coaching change. We were told that Coach Walters is currently on a leave of absence, Coach Suroviec would be leading the teams in his absence, and that it is University policy not to discuss personnel matters externally.

Coach Walters has had a lot of success with the teams over the last decade. He is credited with sending nearly 150 swimmers to the PSAC championships and having more than 50 athletes earning all-conference honors. Last season the women’s team fourth of thirteen teams at the PSAC championships and the men’s team finished fourth of seven teams at the PSAC Championships.

Coach Suroviec is beginning his second year with Golden Knights after joining the team last season.
