Chantal Nack, younger sister of current Minnesota freshman Danielle Nack, has verbally committed to the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Hailing from the Mantas Swim Club and Mankato West High School, Chantal announced her decision via Twitter on Sunday.
At the 2013 Minnesota Class A Championships (small schools), the two sisters led Mankato West to a second-place finish. For younger sister Chantal, that included individual championships in both the 200 free (1:50.08) and the 500 free (4:56.43), while her sister Danielle won two very different races: the 50 free and 100 fly.
That 200 free is Chantal’s best time in the event, though at the LSC Senior Champs she was faster – 4:55.70 – in the 500 free.
Chantal has also been 51.98 in the 100 yard free and a 27.58 in the 50 meter free. She’ll be a big favorite to repeat as the State Champion in both the 200 and 500 freestyles.
Chantal and Danielle are very close, meaning that this was not a surprising decision, but for the Gophers to continue to recruit their home state well – a home state that is producing more-and-more talent and in the class of 2015 has one of the best and deepest classes graduating in its history.
Besides reuniting with her sister, the draw for Chantal Nack as a middle distance swimmers is obvious. From Ashley Steenvorden to Kiera Janzen to freshman Brooke Lorentzen, Minnesota is developing an impressive distance freestyle reputation.
